  • 802.11n ... finally?

Looks like all the big dogs are licking their wounds from the 802.11n battle and forming a consortium to speed up 802.11n standardization. Initial specs will have MIMO (multiple input, multiple output antenna system) for longer range and higher bit rates at longer distances, 600 Mbps, backwards compatible with a/b/g, operate in both 2.4 and 5 GHz (?), and all sorts of fun security stuff.

Final specs are hoped to be complete by next month with product roll-outs by Decmber or early next year.

Very snazzy. I've been waiting for this for a long time. Near Gb speeds without the wire

Nice.. but at what distances can they actually sustain the 600Mbps speed?

Won't know until final specs are released, and even then it will depend on the antenna array quality of the manufacture. Supposedly the max spped range will be at least double that of b/g because of the MIMO antenna design that will be required by the standard.
