  • Latest Steam hardware survey makes interesting reading...

    Highlights:

    30.48% of users have a 2Mbps connection
Mosy have 256 or 512 ram
    48%AMD, 52% Intel

50.62% NV, 41.31% ATI graphics driver, but:
    9.55% 9600 series
    9.33% 9800 series
    7.98% 5200 series
    6.45% GF4 MX series...

So while there's good penetration of high-speed broadband, and most CPUs are >>2GHz, the most common gfx cards are still relatively lowly.

perhaps because HL2 doesn't require beefy GFX card to look good? (and where's Matrox on that list? )

Interesting to note is also thta although OS is mostly English version, it could be PL version or eventually DE (nah...probably naming conventions aren't consistent)

Or that for many people only low absolute (not relative!) price matters, together with good sounding numbers and phrases...if at all.

I know someone who upgraded their system to an socket 939 and AMD64, but didn't go PCI-Express so they could keep, of all things, their 5200!

I'm not sure how much I trust those results. they have the GeForce 6600 listed twice. one at #5 (NVIDIA GeForce 6600 45,801 5.48 %) and one a bit further down (NVidia GeForce 6600 9,254 1.11 % ) and where, exactly, is the 6600GT on there?

if you combine the various 6800 strings (except for the Go line) you wind up with approximately 53,952 6800 series cards in there.

also... what exactly is a GeForce4 FX?

looks like they are doing a literal counting of driver strings. not the most accurate way of counting devices, eh?

So...the mess is because of Omega repacks etc.?

Yeah, some folks are determined...look also at RAM sizes

And wait, some people play it on TNT2 and comparable! Hmm...maybe I'll try on my G400 (that is, if I'll have Internet connection for demo to work...cracked version I've seen didn't have files for DX7...)

Look at it I'm in the top 5 to 10 percent most of the time.

I knew years ago going 1600 x 1200 full everything spelt trouble.

Missed the RAM section... I find it rather difficult to believe people are actually playing any games on a sub 64 meg system, I bet they're just small servers.
