  • Best compression method for large video file?

A buddy of mine wants to take a large video file(over 1GB) and compress it down to 200MB if possible so he can stream it on his website. he tried using DivX 6.0 and got it down to 550MB, but neither he nor I know if that is the best method. Any novice pointers would surely be appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Dave

What frame size do you want to use?

I've seen posts on the DivX forum that version 6 is producing larger files than DivX 5.x did, so you might want to check there for fixes etc.

That said I'd try WMV9. It's been producing very nice results here.

Thanks Doc, he ended up going back to DivX 5.x and got the file down to 400MB from 550MB. I'll let you know if he tries WMV9.

      Thanks again!
