BTW, I love the "A dust devil is much like a tornado on Earth" bit... apparently those spinning columns of dusty air I see on hot summer days must be tornados, wow!
Here's a little video (only 82 kB, H.264 encoded with ffdshow and VirtualDub) of one of the more impressive swarms of dust devils I've seen from Spirit so far, back on Sol 568. That hasn't been touched up at all BTW, just the raw images without any processing other than compression. -
Ever get in the midst of a dust devil in west Texas or Oaklahoma? I remember we were on vacation in Texas when a HUGE one hit. The kids and I were in the store but Margie was stuck in the van.
Damned thing was really rockin' & rollin' and Margies eyes were the size of dinner plates

Yeah, they're a blast to drive through as long as the windows are up, getting a face full of dust and grit isn't very fun.
