Are any makes better than other makes?

Just come to thought that I am restoring a compaq PC and it is taking an age. (100mins to reinstall xp is a joke) now got to service pack it up and put office on. I've had to put 3 cd's in.

I would have thought that by now a typical restore of a machine would be only 30 mins, just from a dvd.

Recent HP "specials" (the $400 machines at Staples) take about... half an hour? 6 CD's.

Mine was a 2002 bought Celeron 1.7. Guess things have moved on.

Yeah there's a LOT of crap on there. But she recently decided that she doesn't really need it any more. Maybe it'll come live here now that she's cancelled her Internet service.
