  • "Sheriff" goes to Iraq in 2006

Sheriff is the nickname for the US's Vehicle-Mounted Active Denial System (V-MADS). V-MADS is a 95ghz microwave system meant to disable attacking forces or groups of insurgents.

The beamn penetrates 1/64th of an inch, just far enough to stimulate every pain receptor in the skin, immobilizing whoever it hits in seconds (think: phaser on stun).

    The real deal:

Reports are that it goes live in Iraq next year, and of course the "usual suspects" are all against it. Guess they'd rather we blow 'em to hell

I guess the insurgents aim will be to obtain one of these vehicles and try and use it against the forces.

Another question is will it do anything? If I'm right most of the problems are from bombers rather than riots or uprisings. This won't stop the suicide attacks.

If it's used willy nilly it will be a fanstatic enrolement video for Bin laden and his croonies. In fact it may encourage insurgants to start riots and then melt away while the media films the innocent bystander in agony.

Could backfire badly if used incorrectly.
