  • Gateway 7426gx Athlon 64 NOTEBOOK COMPUTER

    I just bought a Gateway 7426gx AMD Athlon 64 3700+ NOTEBOOK COMPUTER.

Find the latest drivers, downloads, and help for all your Gateway, Packard Bell, and eMachines products.

    OK... a 64-bit processor.

This should be able to handle the 720p HDV streams from my JVC JY-HD10.

I'll run Mark Dileo's Ulead MediaStudio Pro benchmark test.

    Should be interesting.

      Music to my ears, Doc!

Put that beta to the test... beat up on it... kill those bugs.

      I'm anxious to try it.

          Hey, Doc!

Wasn't "speculation" about 64 bit support in MSP8 part of the NDA?

                  1. Time for .AVI creation

                  7:58

                  2. Time for MPEG-2 encode

                  8:33

                  3. All clips played in real time!

                  4. Processor type and speed

                  AMD Mobile Athlon 64 3700+ @ 2.4GHz

                  5. Memory type

                  DDR SDRAM (1gb) 333MHz

                  6. Chipset

                  VIA K8T800 HyperTransport

                  7. Version

Latest version of Ulead MediaStudio Pro 7 (all patches applied)

These results are pretty good; they appear to rank third behind the two guys who posted faster times with overclocked Pentium 4 2.6GHz chips:

I've done some testing with HDV clips from my JY-HD10.

The Athlon 64 seems beefy enough to play the HDV streams without stutters, but I wish I had an HD monitor.

Anyway - I thought you might be interested in these results.

By the way, the system board in this laptop computer is a VIA chipset board.

The Firewire controller is also a VIA-chipped controller.

They both seem to work just fine.

                  Cheers,

                  Jerry Jones

By the way, my tests were performed with Norton Anti-virus "on."

I wonder if that program slows down the performance.

                    ?

Ran the DV creation test again with Norton turned "off."

That only cut the time down to 7:54.
