    Help!

I just purchased a new mobo (abit kt7a non-raid) and an athlon 1ghz cpu. I also purchased a new quantum 40gig 7200rpm hd (I also have 3 other 20 gig hard drives in the pc). I had to enable DMA in Windows ME to get a decent benchmark. My problem is when I capture the audio playback from the avi is all noisy and crackly, it doesn't sound anything like what it does when I'm actually capturing. If I disable DMA, it drops frames like hell but the audio is perfect.... any ideas?, anyone?

My soundcard is a genuine soundblaster live.

Everything worked fine on Friday in my old pentium 3 450mhz!

    Thanks,
    Nick

    Hi,

I have a somewhat-similar system. The issue you described is something that I just recently got over in my system.

Simply put, it was the SBLive causing problems. On Doc's advice, I purchased a Turtle Beach Santa Cruz sound card. After installing it, the annoying issues went away. Great card! My system works really well now. The versajack is worth the upgrade alone!

For about 12 days win98se was very unstable (blue screens)
at the moment i get blue screens about 1 every 2 weeks
and i know its because i'm listening to mp3's.
      i can capture of 2Hrs / encode to mpeg2 for 18Hrs
but i can not play mp3's without that blue screen pooping up
I agree with Dr Mordrid the amd chipsets are buggy that's hope there's a software fix.

      some settings that helped me.
      in the bios
      pic_irq channel 9 = force the iq for the G400 to 9
      vga irq = on
      usb irq = on

move the pci sound card to the last slot (is you SB ISA or PCI)

allso win98se would not boot with dos sound driver
look how i have REM'ed out the 2 lines in the autoexec.bat
      rem SET BLASTER=A220 I5 D1 T4
      rem LH C:\WINDOWS\ASP4DOS.COM

if not try changing D1 to D3 or D5 (DMA for sound)

dose anybody have a sound card which works good with AMD MB's (please repliy)

I had the same Problems Blue screens and other mystical things on my new computer (1GHz Athlon, ABit KT7A, Promise 100, SBLive, G400+RR). After a call to Abit I installed a new Bios (YH beta). Till this all problems are gone. The Bios can be found on ftp://ftp.leo.org/pub/comp/general/devices/abit/bios/kt7/ .

Keep it straight KX KT KTa are VIA chipsets not AMD.

The AMD 750 and 760 northbridge chip based motherboards give far fewer problems than VIA.

Today I purchased the VIDEOLOGIC SONIC FURY and hey presto, works like a charm!

The SBLive is going in the bin (trash for all you Americans).

I now only get the occasional locking of the system when capturing, that's something I'm working on now.... WinME maybe?

              Thanks,
              Nick.
