  • Mill II or Mystique?

My problem is the following. My father has an older PC (P3-700Mhz) running winXP. He has some no name brand (as near as I can tell) video card in it. He can not watch/view any dvd's with it for some unknown reason. I don't have much time to diagnose the problem, so I am willing to swap video cards with him. I have at my disposal 2 PCI Matrox cards. One is a Millenium II 4MB card and the other is a Mystique 4MB card. Which of these two cards would be best suited to allow him to watch DVD's? Sadly both these cards are currently in some of my older "tinkering" machines which are running on Pentium I hardware, so I can't try them with DVD's to see if they even work.

Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

I think they have too little memory for hardware overlay, I think you want G200/G400 class card.

So any 4MB video card I may have is not going to be enough for him to watch DVD's? If I have 8MB or more then it should be enough?

I seem to remember that the Mystique used to advertise something about x/y scaling for full sceen video playback and that they millenium didn't have quite the same feature. That was a long time ago though... IIRC, the Millenium had a faster core.
        P.S. You've been Spanked!

The Mystique sound better and if that does not work, turn off and hardware acceleration features for the DVD software. It could be the software is looking for something that is not there.
