    Hi I have upgraded MB to an Asus CUBX
    PIII 850
    256 mg pc133
    I have mystique 220 & RRS
    what version of drivers should I use
    for m220 and rrs
    video editing is my main objective
    I have been using VGA BIOS 1.6RRTV
    DISPLAY 4.11.01.4310
    VDD SAME
    POWERDESK 4.31.041
    I know it's an old card but it works
    Just wondered if I could make improvements
    Thanks Smitty

    Don't feel bad about that card being "old". While it's no 3D gaming monster the RRS is still one of the best analog capture devices around, fully capable of running circles around many of the newer/fancy-schmancy products when it comes to laying down good captures to the disk in a no-frills manner. No lie.

    The only thing you might want to do is get a copy of the AVI_IO capture program. It adds a lot of functionality;

    http://www.nct.ch/multimedia/avi_io/index.html

    The info there should explain why I recommend it. Highly.

    That bit of editorializing out of the way (G), the drivers you need are;

    RRStudio Vidto Tools ver. 2.10

    and

    Display Driver ver. 4.31

    These were issued on Jan. 21, 1999 and you can find them on this page;

    http://www.matrox.com/mga/support/dr...ous/prv_rr.cfm

    about 1/3 of the way down the list.

    The latest BIOS update supporting your card is for BIOS ver. 1.8.14 dated Apr. 9, 1999. This update is contained in the BIOS update file Setup351.exe of the same date. Just put this file in its own folder, run the *.exe and follow the directions within.

    Get it on this page;

    http://www.matrox.com/mga/support/dr...s/prv_bios.cfm

    Good luck.

      Thanks Doc
      I had read on previous posts about the vid tools and drivers for the G series and the suggestion of NOT using the newest available
      Hence the question about the RRS
      What benefits there be to updating?
      If I did update and ran into problems can I go back (BIOS& drivers)?
      Also I have not been able to get DVD working
      with newer titles.
      Will update drivers help?
      Thanks again

        The reason for RR-G and Marvel users not installing the 1.54 drivers was more to do with using YUY2 captures. YUY2 support in 1.54 is broken. This has nothing to do with RRS updates though.

        As for the improvements in 2.10, those are a bit foggy but I *think* it came down to the following;

        Instant record became more instant

        Better quality in the captures

        Less artifacting when recompressed in MSPro etc.

        and some internal improvements to the code.

        As I remember the betas were quite happy with the changes.
