Is there such a thing? Or any other kind of good, free recording software?

(I want to record a song from a movie)

Thanks

You mean something like Audacity (http://audacity.sourceforge.net/)? :)

In what format is the movie?

If it's DivX or similar, you can open it in VirtualDub (free) and save audio track as wav.

You then only need to cut it and encode in desired format.

Totalrecorder (search for it, I'm too lazy) is a virtual soundcard that can capture ALL audio streams from ANY windows app (AFAIK).

Winamp...you can play a movie with it novadays; all you have to do is use disk writer plugin.
