  • Farking Microsoft....

looks like the only way you can get updates if you have a pirated copy is to do it automaticly for the time being and then that will come to an end.

I wonder how this will work with people who use the Corp ed, but have legal copy of WinXP Pro non-corp...
Why is it called tourist season, if we can't shoot at them?

If you've got the corp copy it shouldn't effect you.

Why should Microsoft support people who've basically nicked they're os??

If they want something for free install Linux instead.

OK, how many people think Microshaft writes most of the viruses and worms anyhow?

I have a Corp copy and am not verified when I try to download MS anti-spyware beta.

Bah, MS blows. As though this will hurt any of the hackers out there. Who runs windows anymore without a firewall, or a router blocking everything? Most ISP's I have seen give you a modem that blocks almost everything without you doing anything.

I've gotten so annoyed with their registration even using the corp edition... we regularly change hardware in test systems and it keeps invalidating the registration anyway.

Do you mean it says your corporate version isn't valid, or that it dosn't try to validate it?

Well I didn't bother verifying and haven't had any problems downloading.

As for activation a lot of students bring there laptops to us when they knacker them. I.E downloading porn and P2P not running antiviri or doing updates. A lot of times they haven't brought the CD with them so we have to use our own to do the repair. So far Microsoft haven't thrown a wobbler despite us activating it about 9 million times. You'd be quite surprised to hear they're quite understanding about it on the rare occasions they do double check.

Note we won't do a repair if the activation code isn't on the machine or the person presents us with a cd-rw.

Our students have laptops and pcs that have never been updated since the day they have been opened.
We remove the 30 day norton and install our copy of sophos (its free for students while they are at the college).
We always do a full sp upgrade to check the legality of the software, it is our responsibillity when the pc/laptop is on the site. We has advice from F@ST on this one.

On the m$ upgrades I use Zenworks to check for and install updates and hope that m$ don't knacker this with their new proposal.

I still can't believe that people are in effect moaning and complaining because Microsoft have basically said "We don't want to support people who have stolen our OS".
It cost one penny to cross, or one hundred gold pieces if you had a billygoat.

Its not so much that... the issue is their piece of $hit registration process invalidates your system if you change hardware around. All of my computers have the anti-registration hack so I don't have to deal with it, even though I actually have the license.
I had the stupid thing say I had to re-register after I updated my network DRIVER... not even a hardware change.
