  • 3 beeps...

Remember that Candid Camera sketch when they rolled a car (with the engine previously removed) onto a garage forecourt and had a dumb-blonde type ask for help in getting it going again?

I just got this from a tech at work:

Finally had a chance to look at that Time PC someone brought in a while ago. 3 beeps at boot, so looked inside the case and... NO RAM!!! Looks like someone has nicked it or at least played a very bad joke!

(Unfortunately this means someone has been without their PC for some time until he had time to diagnose it, but it's hard not to laugh!)

Nah you got to be more sutle than that.

This what I did to a friends machine.

Downgraded the ram from 256mb to 64mb.

Swapped the processor from a C633 to C400.

He never noticed until we told him.

Of course, if his machine would have failed, he immediatly could think 'the chief lemon buyer" had something to do with it. Still, it could have been worse: "You know, I really have the impression my machine is running faster lately"

To mess with peoples heads, try the following:
            • Save a screenshot of the desktop (with icons)
            • Take a copy of an error message window (or make one ), and put it on that saved image
            • Now set this new image as desktop background
(best if there are no icons/shortcuts over the message box)

The user will have quite a hard time closing that error message.

I started doing the screenshot trick years ago, works great.
