  • Woot! New Work PC

I'm currently working on a White box P3-700mhz with 256mb ram running Windows 2000. Heres the replacement I spec'ed out and suprizingly was approved for! I don't care for Dell PC's that much but I'm not paying for it so...

    Dimension 8400 Series
    Intel Pentium 4 Processor 540 (3.2GHz) w/HT Technology and 1MB cache (221-5705)
    1GB DDR2 SDRAM at 400MHz
    17 in (17 in viewable) E173FPB
    256MB PCI Express x16 (DVI/VGA/TV-out) ATI Radeon X800 XT
    80GB Serial ATA Hard Drive
Microsoft Windows XP Professional,Service Pack 2, English
Intel Pro 1000 Integrated PCI NIC Card
    16X DVD-ROM and 16X DVD+/-RW

Hmm might need to sneak in some games to play during down time
Why is it called tourist season, if we can't shoot at them?

How did you get an x800 and not an x300?
Gigabyte P35-DS3L with a Q6600, 2GB Kingston HyperX (after *3* bad pairs of Crucial Ballistix 1066), Galaxy 8800GT 512MB, SB X-Fi, some drives, and a Dell 2005fpw. Running WinXP.

Why not go for the 533 mhz RAM? There's barely a price difference.

Didnt even notice...and I doubt I'll see a huge impact with it when I'm running Firefox or outlook on it 99% of the time

Two things that bug me here....

                  -17 in (17 in viewable) E173FPB

                  17"? I'd take no less than 19".

                  -80GB Serial ATA Hard Drive
                  Only 80G? That's a bit small...

Have a 19" monitor and there will be office politics.

Nice system though. Does it make much of a racket.

I'm using about 25GB of my 60GB work drive, and I'm on a 17" CRT. He's doing fine.

80G should be way more than adequate, unless you are doing a huge amount of video/audio editing.

533 DIMMs over 400's, 800's if possible (or am I getting this confused and there is no 800 DDR2 yet?).

19" CRT monitor minimum. 17" LCD might be OK, but 19" better if both LCDs have the same native resolution. Just pick one with a model number that doesn't give the size away, say nothing, or tell nosey office-politiking pond scum that it is just newer technology, so just looks bigger.
