  • Upgrading Laptops CD-Drive

I was thinking of upgrading my laptops DVD-CDRW drive in to a DVD-RW. Is it possible? or are they all differant and are made custom for each brand of laptop.

At the moment I have Lite-On Slimtype COMBO LSC-24081

The actual drives are generic but they are usually in a proprietary caddie. Assuming the screw holes line up you should be able to remove the drive from the caddie and replace it with another. Some manufacturers also replace the front bezel, this may prove more difficult to swap over.

You can also try ebay. I was able to buy a DVD drive for my old laptop, and it was quite cheap (20-30€).
I just had to adapt the front bezel.

@ Kastuvas: maybe it would be easier if you specified the brand + model...
