    Nice to see an OsX worm as well.

      This DDOS attack is only possible with firewall logging enabled. And it can only crash a remote attacked machine.

      The Renepo (worm) is just a shell script, a user has to enable it via the admin/root password before it could do any harm. It exploits a users good faith rather than a system vulnerability
      It's also unable to spread itself via email etc.

      Windows, Linux, Mac, … are all vulnerable to this type of attack.
      Main: Dual Xeon LV2.4Ghz@3.1Ghz | 3X21" | NVidia 6800 | 2Gb DDR | SCSI
      Second: Dual PIII 1GHz | 21" Monitor | G200MMS + Quadro 2 Pro | 512MB ECC SDRAM | SCSI
      Third: Apple G4 450Mhz | 21" Monitor | Radeon 8500 | 1,5Gb SDRAM | SCSI

        That's my point, nearly all vulnerabilites are obscure, no matter what platform, market share just dictates how hard people look for them.

        I think it was Gurm that said wait till OsX or *nix have a decent market share, the number of publicised worms/virus/exploits (in the non IT press) worms/virus/exploits would be insane.

          dbdg,
          That's not a worm. If it is, then me telling you 'format c:' is a worm.
          Gigabyte P35-DS3L with a Q6600, 2GB Kingston HyperX (after *3* bad pairs of Crucial Ballistix 1066), Galaxy 8800GT 512MB, SB X-Fi, some drives, and a Dell 2005fpw. Running WinXP.

            I'm not saying it is a worm, I'm just linking to the press article that said that it was.

            // of to format c:

              Security is only as good as the end user. Give the average user access to the root password and they'll happily give it away with a little bit of social engineering.
