Opera seems to have more problems displaying sites correctly.

Opera isn't any faster than IE unless you're running a 386.

Opera is ugly unless you skin it.

        Opera does tabbed browsing better.

Firefox is quicker once up see below, nicer all around interface.

        Firefox is slow to load.

Microsoft website hates them both. Thats got to be a plus.

Spyware with firefox is almost zero. Opera I haven't used enougth as default browser to comment on this.

          False.

I only use FireFox and I get quite a bit, and on a regular basis I might add. So I guess it's not spyware proof afterall, unless you immunize your system using Spybot or have SP2 installed otherwise FireFox is 0% immune to spywares. Sad but true.

Unless you guys use some sort of spyware blocking add-in or plug-in for FireFox.

True and other users have confirmed this.

I get zero so I think you need to clean up.

I reckon you've got spyware from early pron browsing accidental or mean't.

Check for trogans and other viri as well as spyware.

Overall from student laptops I see there is one common dominator and it starts with sex.

My system isn't immunized and my browsing isn't 100% clean. I'm just very careful.

Too much booze then vomit and sleep kicks in. Sex apparently suffers from droop so I'm told.

Why do you think students drink?

They both have pros and cons. Opera has some great features and is quite good out of box, although default user interface sucks. Pros: hide images button, instant back button, light footprint

Firefox is more custumizable via extensions (although I was able to replicate most of features I need in Opera). Pros: extentsions, compatibility, good defaults, free, no adds

Both are good, in my opinion it's personal preference and being used to one or another. Personally I prefer Firefox.

Here's a thread from an Opera guy trying out Firefox:

                        Firefox killer extensions:
                        addblock
                        bugmenot
spellbound (spellchecker with any languages you like - I have English UK, US, German and Slovenian)
                        miniT (tabbrowsing enhancement)
                        spiderzilla - download entire site
                        mycroft.mozdev.org (useful search engines):
                        - IMDB
                        - rottentomatoes
                        - astalavista
                        - LEO English German dictionary
                        - najdi.si matkurja.com (local)

Why is Firefox best browser for pr0n

                          I like this reply

I personally very rarely have to use IE to render a page correctly. About the only thing I use IE for is Windows Update.

It's really a matter of personal preference. I haven't used Firefox, since I am entirely happy with Opera, but I wouldn't want to have to install extensions to make it any better, usability-wise, than IE. Both are safe (I would go so far as to say Opera is a TAD safer, but that'd be nitpicking). Opera costs money, or displays ads (though the google ads are small and unobtrusive). Opera has an e-mail client (I like it very much, many people don't). Opera has very annoying popups if there is a server error (though these are being replaced in 7.6, which is currently being tested). I love being able to type "g martox" into the address field and get the google results for martox (I have this customized and also have gi for google images, a for all the web, ebay for ebay, leo for the leo german-english dictionary, w for wikipedia...). I love zooming when I'm tired (I just lean back and zoom everything big so I can read without squinting). I like how the tabs work, I like sessions, I love muse gestures, I love the instant flipping back and forth in the history (and I mean isntant!), love re-opening closed tabs (unlimited!), love the fact that text in text boxes is kept for back - forward, so if I type an answar and want to have a look at the last page again, I just go there and then go back to typing again, I love the wand (password manager - just hit ctrl+enter to log into sites), I love the numerous keyboard shortcuts, love spatial navigation (navigating through links with the cursor keys, not only next - prev, but spatial), sometimes I like fast forward or the slideshow feature (if you're on a thumbnail page with logical image names, ie. 1.jpg, 2.jpg..., just hitting forward will take you to the first image, hitting forward again to the next, etc. very useful when surfing pro.. err digital photography). Opera does have a few problems, of course: On my system, it takes ~10 secs to load (maybe it's the emails), it sucks up RAM like there is no tomorrow (though it only does when this RAM isn't needed by other apps - recently I've seen Opera use only 500k with six or so open windows), reactions on mouse gestures are a little sluggy with 100+ tabs open, it has no real ad blocking (doesn't bother me, though), no transparent flash (fixed in 7.6), HATE error popups (fixed in 7.6), sometimes sites won't finish loading (has something to do with faulty web server responses, heuristics for recognition of those problems are updated in 7.6).

Hmm... well, it really is personal preference. After all, you can tune both browsers to mimick the other quite well.

Just use whichever you're more comfortable with.

                            AZ
There's an Opera in my macbook.
