  • flash g400 bios "No binary file found"

I am on a minor bios flashing frenzy here. Just flashed 2 g450 cards using the 257.exe file on the matrox website. The I went to flash another computer with a g400 and the after executing the PBIOSwin.exe file the message is "No binary file found". All the unzipped bios files are in the same folder. Anyone?

    thanks.

are the folder options for that computer set so that those file types(..*.bin) are hidden??

      Hey chucky,

no, nothing hidden. It's strange. winxp_sp2, first thing I always do after an install is unhide files.

What exactly is the .bin file that the g400 uses?

      The folder contains 10. I suspect it's the 897-21.bin.

..not sure if that is the correct file, but if you have downloaded the unified bios that covers your product then the readme should tell what file is for what card.

...if it shows in windows explorer in "details" view and the progbios application doesn't see it then something else is at play and i don't know what is going on...i would download the whole thing again and run a "different copy" of the bios programmer.

        good luck

This is the downloaded file from which I also upgraded the bios on two g450 cards.

Matrox System Utilities (for Matrox G200/G400/G450/G550-based graphics cards) Revision 2.57.001

the reason i mention that particular bin-file is that I opened all the bin files with notepad and that one is the one that says g400 in the first few lines.

seems like it should work. But it doesn't

Is this a normal G400 or a Compaq/HP/Dell supplied one?

              aha.

to tell you the truth, I couldm't tell you. I bought it on e-bay a long time ago, but that may be the answer.

i guess i'll check that, it's on my wife's computer. Not a critical update, but something i wanted to get done, BTW, what is the function of a bios update on a video card?

                  thanks.

To have the latest firmware on your card, which could include bug fixes.
Generally, though, if you're not experiencing problems, there's prob no real reason to do it.
