  • Doom3 Patch 1.1 released

    9/23/2004

The 1.1 update for DOOM 3 includes a number of improvements and fixes for both single player and multiplayer components. The update also includes a new "Dedicated Server" executable. Please see the "update_readme.txt" file for a complete list of changes.

All users must have this update to play multiplayer on updated servers.

Note on previously saved games - This update will NOT make previous single player saved games useless. When loading a saved game, or continuing from your last auto-save, you will start at the beginning of that same map, with the inventory that you had going into that map, fully intact. Using this update will reset the Nightmare skill setting. If you were playing in Nightmare mode before applying the 1.1 update, you will need to re-enable it by pressing ctrl + alt + ~, and typing 'g_nightmare 1' (no quotes) at the console (for more information about how to enter the console, please see the readme file). Then save the game and reload that new save for Nightmare mode to work properly.

Except that Surround sound doesn't work, and there is a bug that once you reach the area where you go outside the oxygen indicator doesn't disappear after going back inside... Oh well, first release, not too bad. Just wanting OpenAL though.

From the benchmarks, people have been getting less performance under linux than windows. But to me, the timedemo demo1 seemed smoother to me (haven't played it under linux yet, haven't had time....) Also, it might be important to know that they were using the 61.11 for linux (the latest) vs. 66.81 for windows.

I don't get it. You spend 3 or so years on a game . and say release it when it's done... then go and release a patch for it.

I hope HL2 never needs patching.

Spend a little time in the software industry and you might get it.

You're thinking of the wrong game... Duke Nuke 'Em Forever is going to be the game without bugs, because they'll "release it when it's done"

Oh, my oh my, sarcasm is great

Actually it's only predictable that they'd have to release a patch. Actually, I think they should have done at least what was done with Deus Ex 2 and had the patch fix some of the problems in the cfg files that make the performance so much better on EVERY computer. As it stands now, doing a fresh install of the game on either Linux or Windows, it requires me to either hack the cfg to tell it to use the cache, or I have to run the benchmark at least once before I play it. Otherwise it has to load up textures in the middle of the game, totally ruining the fluid movement....

most of the things in the patch were multiplayer tweak's, not bug fixes.
