Premiere 6.0 black hole

I am trying to determine in and out points, but every time I am selecting individual "frame forward" or "frame back" in the "Monitor" or "Clip" window I see only black. That makes selecting in and out points a little bit hard.....

The clip plays fine if "play" is selected. The clip was captured with Matrox PC-VCR - MJPEG, 704x480, highest quality, and the Premiere video settings reflect that.

What is causing this problem and how can I correct it?

Did you drag the file from the bin to the source window before making your changes? That works on my system.

If that doesn't work try doubleclicking your file on the timeline. This will bring up a trim window where you can select your in/out's and apply them.

Thanks Doc, I pulled the clip to the timeline and that works

Strange so that it does not work by just pulling the clip to the monitor window, or by double-clicking the clip in the project window.

Correction, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.
