  • Holy Crap...

    I saw that MOH: Pacific Assualt demo was out so I went over to Fileshack where I have a mercury account to use and I'm getting nearly a 1Gb download off their servers! I guess no one else is on line today

          Actually, if you want to get technical, that's 8MB... notice the capital B. Megabit vs. Megabyte. Either way, that's DAMNED fast!

            No, lecter is right. 1024KB is 1MB, which is 8Mb.

                  If you're talking units of data storage, then, in order, it's Megabit, Megabyte, millibyte, millibit. The last two don't exist.

                  Mercedes Benz should always be written out in full, to abbreviate would be disrespectful

                    M = Mega (i.e. millions, although in computing it is often 1024*1024 depending on what suits)
                    K = Kilo (i.e. 1000 or 1024 depending)
                    m = milli (i.e. thousandths, not used in computing)
                    b = bit
                    B = Byte (i.e. 8 bits)
                    FT.

                      Also, the technically correct way of expressing 1024x1024 (or 2 to the power of twenty) would be Mebi and 10243 (or 230)would be Gibi (giving us Mebibyte and Gibibyte), but nobody uses that because it sounds stupid

                      But if you want to piss off the Prof Who Knows EverythingTM, this can be useful

                          Actually, the "k" for kilo is a lower case "k". The upper case "K" is reserved for temperature in Kelvin degrees. [/nitpicking]

                            Actually, in Kelvins, not Kelvin degrees.

                              Actually, it's 6 degrees of separation from Kelvin Bacon.
