  • Parhelia dead - Help me choose another video card...

    Hi,

It appears that my venerable Parhelia has died. I took a quick look at Matrox's website, and they don't sell anymore 3.3V Parhelia. I saw some on eBay, but $285 is crazy.

So I need another dual head video card, which runs both screens @ 1600x1200x85HZ at super-amazing picture quality, with dual hardware overlays. It has to also run in my AGP 3.3V slot. My motherboard has dual CPUs, so it should run on that too.

Oh, and it must be fast!

The ATI Radeon 9700 PRO sounds like it fits this description, but I can't seem to find one. Any other recommendations? I need one quick.

I will contact Matrox about my dead Parhelia, but I won't expect a replacement for about a month, and I can't live that long with a disfunctional desktop.

Matrox has a 3 year warranty on all its graphic cards. And maybe it won't take a month to get a new one.

By the way what is the pb with your Parhelia ??

The BIOS in my Parhelia got fried; its on it's way back to Matrox, and I bought a second Parhelia to replace it with....probably not a good idea to have two, but I needed one fast...Also, the 9700 won't run on my motherboard, which has a 3.3V AGP port. I picked up a GeForce 6800, which claimed to run on a 3.3V AGP port, but the connector wouldn't fit in the slot. Rather than being bothered with other video cards, I just decided to get another Parhelia. Besides, I don't think any of the other cards on the market will run 1600x1200x85HZ with dual hardware overlays....and have the same level of picture quality.

yeah. but I still want a high quality dual head video card. Nvidia and ATI still don't have solutions that compare to Matrox....

I wasn't aware the Radeons (or any other non-Matrox card) had dual overlays...

                        "did u get a P8X?"

I managed to find a 2x/4x card on eBay. All the new cards are 8x, which won't work for me.
