  • DVDWS2 Menu workaround

DVDWS2 will allow non-Latin characters only for sub-titles, not for menus.

The following is a workaround allowing text or partially text menus, including titles, to work, when written in Cyrillic, Greek, Arabic, Hebrew etc.

    1. Draw up your menu, with all the non-Latin (and/or Latin) texts in PhotoImpact XL or any suitable photo editing software, over your chosen background at 4:3, 720x540 pixels or whatever. Save as BMP.

    2. Import the BMP into the Image catalogue

    3. Under Menu, Creat a blank menu (L.H. icon)

    4. Drag the BMP image from the list into the background.

    5. Drag a chapter thumbnail over the first menu item, check Invisible Button and resize it to fit the text snugly. I recommend you choose a colour mapping, so that the invisible buttons can be seen when hovered over.

    6. Repeat for all the other texts.

    7. If necessary, the Playlist can be modified to cater for other functions: for example, in a sub-titles or audio track menu you may wish text with Off, English, Deutsch, Français, Ellenika (in Greek), Po-ryccki (in Russian) etc.

    8. This assumes a static background, but motion buttons are still possible for non-text buttons on a mixed menu.

    9. Incidentally, it is also possible to have completely separate menu systems for each language, whether Latin or non-Latin characters are used.
