  • Crappola over...almost....

    I went to see my plastic/hand surgeon yesterday afternoon. It now looks as if there is NO NEED for the additional deep surgical procedure I was fearing (and not just a little).

    She says the infection has cleared enough that she can take me into the OR this morning to do a clean up & closure of the surgical wound under a local anesthesia (wrist nerve block). It's Thursday 8:33 AM here, so I'll have the procedure in about an hour.

    Wish me luck

    To say my wife is ecstatic is the grossest of understatements

    She did everything but dance an Irish jig, which would have been something considering that she's German

    Anyhow....thanks to all for the good wishes and support over the last few weeks. It did me more good than you can ever imagine.

            I'm back home.

            It took 2 hours in the OR, 1 hour in recovery, 250cc of IV antibiotics, lots of cutting, cauterizing & scraping and 42 stitches to close it. Now we'll see how it feels once the nerve block wears off.

            THANK GOD for Vicodin!!

                        I'm planning on buying a house later this year and installing a workshop in the garage. Because of this story, I will always wear gloves when working therein.

                          Make sure you get some made of Kevlar;

                          Another idea is to wash your hands with anti-bacterial soap before working. That way if you do get stuck the sliver is less likely to take any bacteria from your skin in with it. My Dr. thinks this is how I got infected.
