My Sennheiser HD-570's finally died. The drivers are still good, but the plastic is borked and the wiring is jacked up. I've been looking at some new headphones and thought I'd ask for some recommendations.

I'm looking for a good, audiophile headphone. I've been so spoiled with my HD-570's I don't think I could ever use something of lesser quality. My current front runner is the Sennheiser HD-595. It's a new model this year, replacing the HD-590:

http://www.sennheiserusa.com/newsite/productdetail.asp?transid=newHD-3

The only down side to these is the price: $295 USD MSRP (though I'll probably get them for $250). Id' love to get as HD-600 or HD-650, but those are way out of budget.

I've thought of going with a cheaper Sennheiser, like the new HD-555 (replaced my old HD-570's in the 500 series), or possibly moving over to a Grado. Anyone have some recommendations?

PS - the Sennheiser Orpheus is out of the question, too. Though I'd love to listen to one.

I am currently using these:

I'm gonna get a headphone amp to go along with it, but I've been "going to get one" for over two years now :D

My Beyerdynamic DT-990's are wasted away too (need to contact them sometime shortly)... need new ear cushions head trap only... anywho earlier this week was on thier website and noticed they have a "new and improved" DT-990 series 2 that may be worth a try.

I think Sennheisers' parts are replaceable. At least my HD500 is advertised so. It may worth a try to check yours also.

Not the parts that broke on mine. I've checked their site :(

Just decided to take this opportunity for an upgrade. Ordered me a pair of Sennheiser HD-595's over the weekend. They are on backorder for 2-3 weeks. Hopefully I'll have them within a month.

The HD-570's are discontinued, so getting spare parts would probably be costly or hard, or both. It's okay, though, my 570's served me well :D

Always! Now all I need is for Sennhieser to get off their arses and make more HD-595's! They're on back order worldwide.

Damn my HD570 died today (right side has no sound anymore), but luckily it's still under warranty :D (still 1 month of warranty :rambo: ).

If it's the same as mine, the connector inside the headphone got bent when the cord got yanked out. I'd suggest getting warranty on it quick, Sennheiser is backlogged with new product rollout.

Returned it to the shop today. It will be shipped back to sennheiser for repair, sadly it will take approxiametly 2 weeks.

Just be prepared for longer. At least in the US the reapir time is up to 4 weeks or more. I ordered my HD-595's 3 weeks ago and my shop stil doesn't have any in.

If Sennheiser ever decides to make enough so I can get one, I certainly will.

The HD-590 blew chunks, reason for them being replaced by the 595's.

On a side note the DT-990's have been rated ever so slightly better sonically than the HD-595's and are more comfortable... also would be enjoying them instead of this waiting game. ;)

I finally called my AV shop and asked why my Sennheiser's still haven't showed up. My sales rep called Sennheiser USA and he was told that, "due to increased security at all major US ports, our current shipment of products are stuck in customs." They expect them to clear customs late this week or early next.

You gotta watch out for those German headphone makers man, I tell you.

I used to have the HD580's. I have since upgraded to the HD600's with the Clou Blue cable upgrade.

Both are great sets of headphones, if you plan to buy an amplifier.

If not, I suggest the AudioTechnica A900.

I would go for the Beyer DT440s (with the help of mum and dad of course ;)), if they didn't have that stupid headband cracking issue...

Those are 300 dollars....which is a big chunk of money and I don't want 300 dollars headphones to be cracking after a while!!

My ears are happy again. I've got a pair of Sennheiser HD-595's over my ears and The Prodigy (Fot o' the Land, when they were good stuff) booming. The bass is amazing, and I haven't even broken them in yet :D

Why would image tags be off in this little forum when they work just fine in the "New MURC Game" monster thread (which is 100% tagged images)?

Just to test image tags.. here's some on-topic plutography.

acutally jamm, there is a guy on the forums in www.head-fi.org who has listened to them before. do a search on their forums! :)
friendly bunch of people there

On the other note, I join the audiophile club.
I sprung for Audio Technica ATH EM7s and Alessandro Music Series One.

I tell you, I've never heard anything as good as the Alessandros! Amazing sound!! The bass is so well defined and its so detailed!
The Audio Technicals work very well with my MD player, the EQ gets rid of the bass-shyness!!

I envy you for the HD595s. I listened to them in the shop and WOW....b****ead mania!! :D Congratulations man, how much did they set you back?
