  • :) Sun's new modular workstation / motherboard

All I can say is it looks like their engineers have done their homework.

Have decided what I want for my next system!!!

    What do you guys think?

      Very cool indeed...
Even the default 5 PCI-X slots is impressive; but being able to swap out 3 of them and the agp port for something newer is very cool...
      Some questions remain though:
      1. how many different expansion modules will be made available (both at 1 time as in time for upgrade purposes)
      2. will it be cheaper than regular mainboard costs...
      3. will it be worth it, in other words: would an expansion board upgrade be good enough (no CPU upgrade or things like that)

Still, it is a nice idea... Wonder if it will emerge in non-Sun devices too...

My biggest question is.... this is supposed to be a workstation computer? Looks to me like it'd be a killer server. Also, I noted that there aren't any PS/2 connectors for keyboards and mice. Is that they way things are going now, USB only?

The single processor machines start at around $1700, you can spend $15000 though (on a maxed out dual processor machine).
