  • Doom3 benchmarks

Looks like lots of people are going to get the 6800GT. The X800 XT PE got smacked around.

Ladies and gentlemen, take my advice, pull down your pants and slide on the ice.

That was a good read. Thanks.
    P.S. You've been Spanked!

jeez, those people on the hardocp forums are nuts. What I would like to know is, who the hell plays games at 1600x1200 with AA on?? If you're still seeing jaggies at 1600x1200 then you're sittin way too damn close to your monitor.

I think the benchmark is the official idsoftware results which HOCP simply published.

but i am with you, they should do some "normal" benchmarks eg 9600/5700 at 1024 or 800

And the 4 player max in multiplayer sounds a bit sad

i totally disagree with anyone that says 4 player multi is sad. Nothing is more intense than 1v1 or 2v2. And with doom3, itll be more intense than any other game ive played.

And a note on that, thats only the base doom3 game thatll be limited to 4 player multi, any mods can easily go higher. hell, even id could go with more in doom3 with a simple patch if they wanted to.

I have had plenty of great games at lan with just 3 or 4 people (serious sam..etc)

But the 4 player max limits the scope of internet play a lot.

Doom3 focuses on single player, but engine is what is important, as it will be used for next 3-5 years.

Just like for instance manny games (Enemy Territory, Jedi Knight, Call of Duty, etc...) are based on Q3 engine.

I never liked small multi. One guy gets all the weapons and powerups, and keeps killing you as you spawn.

                  Yeah but small-scale co-op action is wicked fun I hope that there's a co-op option in D3.

There needs to be more co-op FPS games. Serious Sam was a blast, and the Rainbow Six games are fun as hell! Quake 2 kicked ass as co-op as well. There just isn't that many co-op games anymore...

I can't remember if Doom 1 was co-op, but I know Doom 2 was, and that was great. I hope the 4 max is for a co-op. Personally, I don't care too much for Deathmatch. (though I do like CTF a lot)

I completely agree, I've never understood the point in having 1600x1200 with AA of anykind... it unneedlessly slows down the system. Not to mention on the games where FAA worked, it looked better at 1024x768 with FAA on than it did at 1600x1200 with nothing... at least in the few older games that would run smoothly that. I find that odd, but it seemed to be the case... I think probably because the engines that are that old don't handle 1600x1200 very well, and it looks more like 800x600 with double the pixels...

I always laughed when people would say "My card can do 1600x1200 with AF and AA set to max and still run fast on XXX" I'd just look at them and say, "By god, why do you have AA on at that resolution? The only point in it is to slow it down...

                        Stupid question:

What the hell is co-op play? Is it that you are playing the same game in SP and accomplishing the same thing? I hear people mentioning it in MP as well, how does that work?

You haven't played Halo co-op?! It's short for cooperative play and you nailed it with your first guess. Defined more broadly: a group of human players working together against the AI to reach a certain objective.

Yup and on the PC the Serious Sam games are the most fun examples Works well when you are playing in the same room (less well online...)

For you co-op fans, give Alien Swarm a try.
