  • G400 1024x768 @ 85hz. does this seem right?

I have a g400 32meg dual head card. I cannot set my refresh rate higher than 85hrz. I have tried with two different monitors. Does the card with the best picture quality in the business max out at 85hz?

    Thanks

Your monitors probably both max out at 85Hz. 85Hz itself is fairly high, I don't think you would need any higher. You can probably force the card to make it go higher, but it would more than likely result in a damaged monitor (trust me I've done it).

Depends on your monitor. Most modern monitors have protection inbuilt into them and will display a warning message if the frequency is too high.

Matrox does have the best control panel for setting frequencies to your monitor. You'll find these under advance settings. Can't remember which tab I'm afraid.

Yup, everything has been said, it surely comes from your monitors. I used to run my main monitor @ 1280x960@100Hz and the second head @ 1182x864@90Hz with the G400max. Even a non max would be able to do so.

I have been able to run 1280x960@100Hz as well on my PS775 with a g400DH32mb (non-max) so it boils down to your monitor... in any case..85Hz is not too bad

I thought you have to tweak the allowed resolutions in the advanced/monitor area of the matrox control panel. Doesn't it limit the monitors to 85Hz regardless of their actual max resolution unless you tell it specifically what you want?

It's a possibility, maybe installing monitor drivers (rather than just the default plug and play ones) would let you easily go to the higher refresh. (Higher than 85Hz).
