  • Why women live longer (on average)

    Because they get pregnant.

    It's being reported that the fetus showers the mothers body with stem cells. As reported in the online version of London;

    Scientists believe they may have unlocked the secret of why women tend to live longer than men.

    It is all down to motherhood. The cells from the developing baby pass into the mother's bone marrow during the early stages of pregnancy.

    The scientists say these cells may rejuvenate the mother's own, repair damage and fight disease, prolonging her life. The findings, in today's Lancet, could explain why women who have had children are less likely to develop arthritis, multiple sclerosis and breast cancer.

              The man does.

                There is an Orthodox nunnery here (a really beautiful haven of peace) where, judging from appearances, the youngest nun looks about 95 and the eldest about 105 (actually, they are about 10 years younger than this). Now, I wonder where they got their stem cells from?

                        I heard a theory once, that it has something to do with the woman loosing blood every month, and her body replenishing itself with fresh blood. Interesting stuff Doc.
