I would suggest the Nec ND-2510 same as the 2500 but with +R9 capability built in and it is also quite cheap, I can get it for 90 euros.
Otherwise the NEc ND-2500A is an excellent choice, it can be flash to add +R9 capability but that looses the warranty.

The 2500 has a very strong community for firmware developement.
      System : ASUS A8N SLI premium, Athlon 64X2 3800+, 2Gb, T7K500 320Gb SATAII, T7K250 250Gb SATAII, T7K250 250Gb ATA133, Nec ND-3520, Plextor PX130A, SB Audigy 2, Sapphire Radeon X800 GTO, 24" Dell 2407WFP.

        might be of interest

I'd seriously consider the NEC 2500A and void my warranty with this unofficial firmware...

I'd get the Plextor PX 708A. 12x is too expensive, considering media is not abundant and cheap. Also in a year we can expect faster dual layer burners (a 2nd revision of technology tends to be better).
