  • Win XP Pro: delete Administrator account?

For some reasons, I have 2 admin accounts on my computer and one is never used. Can't seem to find out how to delete it. I'm current loggen in with the admin account I wanna keep and see no options to delete the other account.

Someone has any idea ? Thanks

Have you tried deleting it from Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Computer Management?

The original "Administrator" account cannot be deleted or disabled.

It can only be renamed and passworded.

If you choose a username during installation, another administrator account is created with your username. That account you can delete.

Either password and rename the originial Administrator account (as well as your current account) or transfer settings to other account and delete your account.

        albatorsk,
That's where I have been looking for account delete function

        UtwigMU,
Actually the account I want to keep is "Administrator". I remember I created another Admin account named xyz in the control panel later and that's the one I want to delete. Can't find the option to delete it in the control panel.
According to Microsoft Help: "You probably already know that only computer administrators can delete accounts. But even if you are a computer administrator, you can't delete your own account. You'll need to ask someone else with administrator account to do this for you..."; I should be able to delete the xyz account when logged in as "Administrator" right ?

Unless xyz was the original administrator account, renamed.

            Wombat,
I can rename it to everything but still can't see the "delete account" option. It's only available for non-administrator accounts.

I just realize that does not matter what names I change to, my computer still allows me to log in as NBT. I see this when logged on as xyz but when trying to logging off, it shows "Log off NBT" in the "Shut down Windows" dialogue.

Is this NBT "the original administrator account" Wombat is referring to and can't be deleted ?

Right click My Computer in Start menu or on Desktop, manage. (Or Start-Run-"compmgmt.msc"-ENTER)

                System Tools->Local Users and Groups->Users
                Right click Account, choose delete.

I also adwise having control panel in Clasic view (NT/2k style).
