  • CD Writer only PIO mode

My cd writer has started to have problems burning a while back. It always finishes the CD, but it has about 100 buffer underruns because for some reason windows wont enable DMA mode, which really slows it down.

all the other drives work fine.

my setup is: primary IDE: HD, DVD
    secpmd IDE: HD, CD-R

    win XP Pro SP1

anyone know what the problem might be? should i connect both HD to the same IDE port? Telling windows to use DMA when possible doesnt have any effect, still shows the drive as PIO-only Its a rather new Plextor drive, so I dont think the drive is faulty.

maybe its the nforce IDE drivers?

are you using the latest IDE drivers?
if you are then uninstall the secondary ide channel in device manager then reboot.
hopefully that'll put your burner back into dma mode.

      It worked, thanks

it was really annoying to watch a 52x burner taking ~10 minutes for a cd
