  • Computer HP needed to render dv to mpeg2 on the fly

What type of computer horsepower would I need to to convert DV to Mpeg2 on the fly. Right now I have a 900 mhz AMD, 256 ram and if I record a 2 hr movie thru my sony, (capture w pinacle via firewire) then render it to Mpeg 2 for dvd, this takes about 8 to 10 hrs. It seems most video cards (ati) use software to render Mpeg 2 and it still could be time consuming. I have seen plextor has a new convertor, CONVERTEX!
Read it in CPU mag. It takes any analog video signal, coverts it to digital and encode it to mpeg2 in real time! looks interesting.

    1. Your computer is really lacking in horsepower for any software RT application. I would recommend at least 2 GHz, preferably more, with 1 Gb RAM.

    2. I don't know the product you mention, but I do know that RT conversion to MPEG-2 has proved disappointing to some. This does not mean that the product in question is not good; it may be excellent. What it does mean is check that the quality is good enough for you before buying.
