  • Fuji S7000 Or Canon S1

Hello all you photographers Well the title says it all. I have a friend that can't decide which one to pick:/ So I thought I will ask people who know more about this than me.

I think they are in simillar price range and features, so is it just the name differance or is there more to those cameras?

    Thank you,

Seriously: Minolta Dimage A1 (or A2, if he can wait a few weeks and wants 8mp).

Between the two you mentioned, I haven't read anything about retail S1s yet, but the S7000 doesn't seem to be that good a camera.

I think Minolta Dimage A1 is too exppensive. He was looking at around £400 Price range:/

Don't think you can get an S1 Pro (if that's what you were looking at) for that price - MSRP is 1000 USD.

The A2 is too expensive, alright. The A1 is a little over 400 GBP here, will surely drop once the A2 becomes available retail (a month or so, I'd guess).

What is he looking for in a camera?

Ah sorry, I see you meant the S1 IS. If he can get that camera at a good price, I think it'd be the wiser choice. Image Stabilization is VERY helpful, especially at those long zooms.

No its not the S1pro he has an eye on its this one, http://www.powershot.com/powershot2/s1is/index.html

Is it S1 IS. Sorry for the confusion.

He really wants a good macro mode quality. Thats why he cant decide between S7000 and S1 SI because S7000 has Super Macro mode. But taking other pictures Canon is better as well as having more manual setting.

Super Macro is useless, lots of distortion. It's a marketing feature. Normal macro mode on the S7000 is good, but not spectacular DPReview Macro Focus test.

I don't know how the S1's Macro abilities are.

BTW, the older Dimage 7i and 7Hi are still good cameras, he might be able to find them at good prices.

Oh, the Panasonic Lumix DMC FZ-10 may also be an option: 4mp, 12x optically stabilized optical zoom, flash hot-shoe, filter thread.

Hmmm... The Panasonic seems to have low light Focus problems, and its image quality seems to be a bit on the bad side. Just a word of warning, feature-wise it sounds great.

I've used it and didn't have any problems with the S7000.

I wouldn't recommend it due to the compression of the Jpegs. Tends to be noisy as well even at iso of 200.
