  • Asrock MB with SIS chipset ? any good ?

Hi I’m in the market for a new MB and I saw this one (K7S8XE+ Asrock) at the local dealers. In reading the posts here I see you guys favor the SIS chipsets as they are not bus hogs when it comes to video editing. I am an AMD fan. I like the fact that this board comes with serial ATA but am not sure of the quality of the onboard raid or sound.
K7S8XE+ is a upgrade version of K7S8X which come with Two onboard Serial ATA 15GB/s connector support RAID 0, 1 and JBOD. Packed with the features such as AGP 8X, 5 PCI slots, ATA133, 6 USB 2.0, six- channels audio, 10/100Mbs Ethernet LAN, Full ATX form factor and ASRock U-COP™ and Hybrid Booster™ Technology. Bonus Pack include 2 x Serial ATA cable, 1 x Y type power cable and game port.
    North Bridge: Sis748 + 964
    Your opinion is much appreciated!

    Thanks

I've installed the non-"+" version in a machine... stable board, cheap cheap cheap. But has possibly the most jumpers on a motherboard I've seen since the 1980s. And very few options in the BIOS.

But if you want the cheapest possibly SiS board (and you're right we don't like VIA around here) this is as good as any. It works. It's tough to tweak, but if it works, hey, who cares?

Yes the price of this board is great $65.00 Can. I think overall Asrock is ok but what I am worried about is will the onboard raid, serial ATA or on board sound cause issues?

If you go with the ASR K7S8XE+ and then a Mobile AMD XP+ 2500, with the right BIOS, you could adjust the multiplier via the BIOS. So, I've read.

I'm using the onboard lan and onboard sound. Can't complain. They work. I can't comment on the SATA or RAID options, as I'm only have one IDE drive connected to the motherboard. Also, I'm not using the board for any desktop video work. I am running 200 fsb .
