Help! RRG audio problems in VirtualDub....

I am having problems capturing audio in virtualdub's capture facility. Let me note that I have absolutely no problem with recording with the matrox pc-vcr remote. I get audio, video, everything. But when I switch over to capture from vdub, no audio. I have switched the recording panel in the volume control to record from the line in jack on my sound card (its an ensoniq/creative audioPCI model), and I still get nothing. How can it work with the pc-vcr, but not with vdub?

I am running vtools 1.52, with driver 552, on win98, a PII233 on an LX6 (it works), with an adaptec 2940uw, the rrg is mated to a g200 millenium (one of the first ones). Thanks for any help.
