  • Alternatives to XFree86 and the Parhelia drivers...

Haven't had time lately to look into this, so I figured I'd just ask here With the talk of XFree86's new licensing for 4.4, and the possibility that distros are going to start switching over to the various other X Servers out there, will the current Matrox Parhelia driver work with these? For instance the X.org one?

The X.org server does not support the XFree86 driver model. XFree86 is basically the X.org server with a new driver model plus some additional extensions.

Now if there is framebuffer support in the kernel for the parhelia, you can run the fdo X server on it - sans OGL, except maybe through Mesa. I haven't tried the fdo X server yet, so I don't really know much about it.
