  • SCO sells IP licenses

    * The company, however, is not offering refunds on purchases should the courts deny its claims.

Can someone, anyone tell me why the hell their Additional CPU licence is more expensive then a single cpu licence?

English doesn't borrow from other languages. It follows them down dark alleys, knocks them over, and goes through their pockets for loose grammar.

Well - you must be wealthy if you have multiple CPUs, right?

        Pretty much. Single-CPU = desktop. Multi-CPU = server.
Gigabyte P35-DS3L with a Q6600, 2GB Kingston HyperX (after *3* bad pairs of Crucial Ballistix 1066), Galaxy 8800GT 512MB, SB X-Fi, some drives, and a Dell 2005fpw. Running WinXP.

It's not an unusual fee structure (other than SCO just being on crack for even thinking it's theirs). Oracle charges big $$$ for the many-CPU editions (and they do have to put in a lot of work to make large servers run efficiently). There are even some programs that you can get the single-CPU version for free, so that you can develop/evaluate, and then pay for the prime-time deployment.

Isn't that basically the same as Windows XP? Home edition only supports one CPU and Pro supports two. Pro is more than the Home.

But I guess that logic doesn't apply here.... since this is INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY that they're selling. My question here is; How can you sell information and then charge annualy for it?

"Psst, hey buddy, I'm going to tell you a secret, but I want you to pay me every year for it..." Please...

As Wombat put it, they are on crack. In fact, I know a few years ago, Utah had the highest amount of meth labs in the country. Crackheads apparently all got jobs at SCO.
