  • best os for video capture and editing?

    Hi,

I about to make my system a dual os system via two remavable caddies. I have xp pro. I think I will have to get another os. Is xp pro or 2000 better for a stripped down editing os? I will be used solo for capture, editing, and dvd authoring. thank you for any info Nunchal

I've tried both. Frankly, for editing, there is no difference. However, if your new system uses HT CPUs, then you have no choice. Only XP Pro can handle dualie HTs (W2k can handle a single HT partially).

For capturing Win2k still is the much more reliable OS than XP. XP is still not suited well for high bandwidth apps.

MSP7.01 is configured to make the most from dualies, especially with HT CPUs.

I still think win98se was the leanest and meanest but stability (and a few other things) are pretty dismal about it.

Used win2kpro for years....it was always very good.

To get the most out of my new setup (dual xeons)....XP is the only way to go (not looking to become a linuxboy atm). HT is fantastic (and makes a huge impact on processing times!).

To give you an idea....re-encoding a 720x480 dv avi to vcd-compliant mpeg1 (TmpgEnc, best quality) takes 2.6x actual time using my setup under win2kpro. Under winxppro, the same re-encode takes 1.18x actual time.

On premiere vs. mediastudiopro....used premiere for many years but am now quite the msp fan (besides being fully optimized for my setup, it's got some very nice features and is, in general, a helluva lot more intuitive and easy to use).

                  Just my few cents.

                      Hi,
So far, I am not impressed with the matrox rt.x100. I have yet too get a working dvd in synch. I can't figure out if its the import, or export, or how I use dvdit pe. I need any help. I am using a 40 gb xp pro system just for video. I capture video using the breakout box. I capture in ntsc avi. I export with adobe export. I use dvdit pe. Is there a way to find the weak link. Is the import or export working? Any advice would be great. Why won't the sound synch? Why does adobe premiere 6.5 crash regularly? Help Nunchal

Two soundcards? have you tried it with just one installed at a time?

Don't know how the Aardvark compares to the TBSC for PCI loading. But if both are demanding resources at the same time, it could cause problems.

                          Hi,

The 2nd souncard is disabled. I can take it out if that will solve the problem. But I'm not sure where problem is. I can capture, export and burn dvd's. The audio synch is off. Nunchal
