  • Matrox rt.x100 audio export help

    Hi,
I have any audio synch problem. I am exporting using the adobe, the matrox real time, and even the ligos. I have 2 soundcards. Is this causing the problem? I am thinking of putting the system drive on a removable caddie and making a win 2 k editing rig. Just the minimum. Can I leave the aardvark in its pci slot and not have the drivers installed, and not have it cause problems? I am very frustrated. I did the 15 minute synch test, but I even have problems on dv thru the firewire avi's. What can I do? Nunchal

ps I m using dvdit pe edition. And premeire 6.5

well the synch test is for analog only. If you are having problems with the DV too then you should definately start over with the bare minimum.

Not sure if 2 sound cards would cause problems or not. Why do you need 2 of them for?

      Hi Ray,
Besides video editing, I multi track record. I am also transfering older 1/2 " 8 track reel to reels for mastering digitally. I have a no longer used windows 2k disc. Is that better for a editing rig? I want to know if I can leave the aardvark card in the pci slot with no drivers, without it causing problems. I really can't afford another rig for audio mixing at this momment, but it looks like that is the way to go. You have a removable system drive I think? Do you run xp or 2k? Do you worry about all the security updates on the simple editing rig? I have the link http://www.videoguys.com/WinXP.html that you gave me. I am thinking of using 2k instead of xp pro, because I only have 1 xp licence . Any suggestions? Know of any metal black caddies? Nunchal

        Hi Nunchal,

Yes it was me. You could use Win2k if you aren't using P-pro. It works good for me with Xtools 4263 and Prem6.5. P-pro won't work with Win2000.

I want to know if I can leave the aardvark card in the pci slot with no drivers, without it causing problems.

You could try and set up a config for editing only and disable one of the audio cards. That should work for you.

You have a removable system drive I think? Do you run xp or 2k?

Yes I run caddies with my system. One caddie has Win2000 & WinMe dual boot config. This config I put all my junk and internet stuff on, games etc.... No I am not using WinXP. The other has only Win2000, Matrox Xtools, Prem6.5, Photoshop, Photo impact, reel dvd, etc. Just stuff for editing only.

Do you worry about all the security updates on the simple editing rig?

No I really don't worry about security updates, because my editing rig is not hooked up to the internet. When I switch caddies to my editing config that's all I use that config for. I have only installed SP's for the OS. Currently SP3.

As far as "black" caddies, no I haven't seen them. You could probably do a search at www.pricewatch.com and find some.

If you have a couple of medium size drives you could buy a couple of caddies for them, you will need a bay enclosure for each caddie type set up your shooting for. The drives go in the caddie and the caddies then slide inside the bay.

I have 2 bay enclosures, one I use for the system drive the other I use for my A/V capture disk. That way when a project is complete I just simply slide that disk out and store it, buy another caddie and new harddrive and I'm ready to start again fresh. If I ever need to reedit an old project I can just simply slide that corresponding caddie back in and I am ready to go in 30sec.

If you had 2 system drives it would be much easier to configure. You could have one sound card disabled on the editing rig and the other sound card disabled on the audio type set up you're looking for and then disable the RTX100 on that config as well.

          Hi Ray,
You just gave lots of great info. I have a caddie for my export drive, but have never configured a multi drive multi system system, if that makes sense. I only use a few programs. ( premeire 6.5, photoshop 7, illustrator 7, cubase, wavelab, and dvdit pe) . So win 2k should work. I will add the new sp, but not worry about security updates. I do my email or porn watching on another computer ( laptop) But I would like to play games. So I'm thinking of adding a ati 9800 and a caddie for my system drive. The g550 is a good multi moniter card, but doesn't play games well. I think I should eventually seperate the systems and put the 10 input soundcard on a sound rig. So thank you for your info. I will give it a try. I'm just hoping that this solution will fix my synch problem. The only other thing I can think of is the rambus ram is throwing things off. Or maybe some of the stuff in the registry. But I'm semi sure its 2 sound cards causing some sort of crew up. So again thanks Nunchal
ps in about 2 weeeks , I'll let you know how it goes.

            Hi Ray,

I have two enermax caddies and a maxtor 80 gb ata 133 with 8 mb buffer ordered and I got an ati 9800 pro on sale at compusa. Hopefully with a new bios, and a fresh minimal install, I willl be able to use the matrox rt.x100 and my audio synch problems will go away. Is there a better audio card for analogue capture then the santa cruz.? I would like a asio card, but most don't seem to work. The audigy 2 platinum didn't work. Nor did the m audio, hercules, or the onboard card. Nor does my high end aardvark 10 input soundcard. I just want my high end system to work. Sorry if I sound frustrated, you've been a great source of info. Nunchal

              Hi Nunchal,

Well I currently use the TB Santa Cruz. This discussion was hashed out before and the TBSC got many votes. I don't think there is a much better choice out there to edit with. But I haven't looked in some time.

Here it is if you want to skim the audio card thread

              Good luck.
