  • WTF is wrong with DIVX Networks?

Right on schedule, the latest update of DIVX utterly farks playback. What is WRONG with these people? It's like a rule...

4.0 works ok, 4.0.5 works better, 4.1 FARKS THE PLAYBACK.

5.0 works ok, 5.0.5 works better, 5.1 FARKS THE PLAYBACK!

    It's like f***ing clockwork!

          I must say, I haven't attempt this...

Isn't it often the case with software: when they try to improve it, they make it worse (e.g. the AVG interface)... Bad programming ? Or bad quality control ?

I'm using 5.1.1 with full automatic Post-Proc adjust and film effect on default, no problems here.

              You could try DivX Light.

To some extent... but I doubt Gurm fits in this category.

I too noticed that programmers are trying to hide the more advanced features, to make it more accessible for the average consumer. Downside it that this way they make the program unneccesarily difficult for the 'educated user'. We noticed this in Windows too: in XP some settings are very deep to find, esp. when you compare it to NT. This makes more and more programs frustrating, as you know what features/settings you have, but can't find them because they are hidden too well.
(even worse is if they just ommit the advanced features completely)

A simpler solution would be to have a user-level assigned with each user: if you want the complex stuff, you got it; if you don't, you don't.

Hey, at least it doesn't let you mess with the advanced options to screw things up, always worked

With the bundle or Pro, if I touch the film effects hell breaks loose.

                      Admiral,

My problem is the playback, virtually every DIVX I've tried with 5.1.1 has corruption that wasn't there with 5.0.x

Why should they spam you when you actually want it? E-mails are only useful when they are unnecessary.

Ok, so I discovered that the problem wasn't DIVX movies - it's that DIVX now attempts to render XVID. This is nice and all, but they do an absolute crap job of it, so one wonders why they even try - and it's kind of rude of them to just TAKE OVER the association for XVID rendering from the XVID codec I worked so hard to find.
