Is there any way to do this under Win XP?

Or is there a freeware program that can do this?

does the DOS ren command not work for your purpose?
    goto a command window

    ren *.mp3 *.old

There is an excellent freeware "Rname-it". You can find it in internet.

There _is_ a way to do it under XP, but I doubt you'll like the results.

        I use a third-party tool.

Most of the time I just use ACDSee's "batch rename" filter.

I just tried Wild Rename and find Rname-It more favorable to me.

Flash Renamer (shareware) seems pretty comprehensive.
              There's no place like 127.0.0.1
