  • Interesting news at Matrox website!

    Check this out!

Not only they have found one potential target market more,
but they are now offering TripleHead upgrade kit for Millennium P650 cards also!

So they've just effectively killed the P750 then?

I don't know if there's any differences between the clock/memory speeds on P650 and P750, but in theory, P750 could be a bit faster, because it has a fan.

      EDIT:
Btw, now the cheapest card with TripleHead is actually P750. If you want TripleHead and you prefer silent system, you'll have to pay more for P650 and for upgrade kit! Of course you can also mod your P750 and remove the fan, but it will void your warranty...

It's about time. I expected that triplehead upgrade to be released months ago
        Core2 Duo E7500 2.93, Asus P5Q Pro Turbo, 4gig 1066 DDR2, 1gig Asus ENGTS250, SB X-Fi Gamer ,WD Caviar Black 1tb, Plextor PX-880SA, Dual Samsung 2494s

The P750 is quicker than the P650, albiet not by much, plus the combined cost of a P650 plus the triple head upgrade is more than that of the P750.

fair enough. Seems quite expensive for a cable and a BIOS update then

There was G450LX which was only singlehead and was sold only to OEMs or in bulk.

The dualhead upgrade kit was also available latter.

If you look at prices for some of memory upgrades for ancient cards, you'll see that upgrades are always costly with Matrox.

Also I don't recall other manufacturers selling upgrades.

BTW, just saw P650 in action a theatre (not a cinema, you know, where real people act on stage) asked me to help with their projections/animations, so I recommended them P650 as it's cheap, has dual overlays and dualhead is enough for monitor and projector.

$90 for a cable... is Matrox that desperate for money or just so out of touch with reality?
I could get a couple decent pci graphics cards for that.

They'll be making a 1000%+ profit on each "kit" they sell...

If you don't want it, don't buy it.

This kit is aimed for the audio people who do not want fans in their studio but need the desktop space for mixdowns, score editing, etc.

Besides, if you need TH now and don't care about fans, then you get the 750

Yeah, I can relate to paying a premium for silent computing. The following is one of my favorite websites:
Silent PC Review THOUGHT LEADERS IN EFFICIENT, SILENT, STATE OF THE ART COMPUTERS SINCE 2002 Latest PC Posts News By Charlie Noon January 20, 2023 Components By Shaun Conroy January 19, 2023 PSU Buyer’s Guide By Shaun Conroy January 19, 2023 Gaming Monitor Buyer’s Guide By Charlie Noon January 18, 2023 Gaming Monitor Buyer’s Guide

I'm also glad this kit isn't targeted for the mass market, because in truth I don't think it would sell too well to a general audience. For example, I was skimming the article and thinking: "boy that's a good idea." But once I saw the price tag, I was taken aback (I truly thought that it would be a $20-$30 max part). But hey, if matrox has found a niche market of audio specialists, for whom the product is worth the $90 price, then more power to them.
