  • backing up windows registry from dos

I have a windows 2000 installation that is buggered. Boots to console using startup disks but no gui. Boot records etc are stuffed. I needed to get at various registry settings but the last time I did a serious manual registry backup was in 95/98 days - no longer as simple.

So any way of recovering the registry so I can grab some keys....????

The registry in Win2k is held in several files located in C:\WinNT\Sytem32\Config. I think you can use REGEDIT or REGEDT32 from a command prompt.
When you own your own business you only have to work half a day. You can do anything you want with the other twelve hours.

www.winternals.com or do a search on Linux + NTFS boot disks.

Have you tried to repair the install too?
