  • S3 Mix-Tape

    Tracks:
    1. The Tech Report
    2. FiringSquad
    3. ExtremeTech

If it were on the market right now, it looks like it would be a contender in its price bracket. It looks as though it may not make it until early 2004, however.

There's also a bit of conflicting info going around, some are saying MSAA, some SSAA.

Apparently S3 opted for FP24, but with FP16 partial precision as well!

It doesn't seem to be a bad middle of the road product.

I'll have to keep an eye on this product.

Then again, S3 does have that certain reputation for drivers...which could very well be made even worse since their merger with VIA.

The thing that interests me most is talk of 2D being an important feature of that card. That, coupled with hardware WM9 rendering and excellent DVD hardware playback, could make it the perfect card for the HTPC.

I heard that S3 recently opened up the specs to the Savage chipsets, and are even helping with efforts to get XFree86 and the DRI working with them. If they continue this attitude with the DeltaChrome, it's going to be the card to buy for alternative OS's, just as the G400 used to be.

Hope they don't screw up the Windows drivers... <fingers crossed>

Not too shabby. Let's hope the drivers are good.

S3 should engage PowerDesk coders for creating own drivers
