Problem getting sound working

My parents have a Chaintech nForce2 mobo with Win98 and the onboard sound device is not showing up in Multimedia Properties. The sound is enabled in BIOS; the C Media AC97 Audio Device is showing up in Sound, Video and Game Controllers in the Device Manager; and C-Media's audio configuration thing is installed.

Is there something else I'm missing or any other tips for getting the sound to be recognized as a useable device?

First suggestion is unistall/reinstall or maybe a different driver version.
