  • Autocad 2002 rebooting PC

    Hi all,

Can't seem to find any reason why, but on a compaq Evo desktop PC here at work Autocad 2002 has started rebooting the PC when run. It's an XP PC with all the updates installed.

    Any ideas?

Don't worry - just found it. It doesn't like McAfee Anti Virus!

      Upgrade to AutoCAD 2004.

      No?

      Oh, c'mon. It's only $15k.

You mean Mcafee doesn't like autocad. You can always use their "don't email us" crap support.

You mean the support that will officially deny that it's a problem?

Watch out, because in McAfee terms, this is deadly.

When McAfee doesn't like a product, here are the steps:

          Current Version: Reboots machine.
          Current . 01 : Corrupts data files.
          Current . 03 : Corrupts SYSTEM files.
          Current . 1 : Hoses your partition.
Current . 11 : Oh, we introduced a fix for an unrelated problem. Oh, it kept our product from formatting your hard drive? Great! Look how good our support is!

You can't even email the buggers these days. If you do you get an email back saying email support is withdrawn use chat instead.

              ROFL.

McAfee is going to hell in a handbasket.

The sad part is that I predicted this almost 10 years ago when they were caught pirating Norton's antiviral code. The fact that they then acquired the horrific mess that was PGP desktop was another nail in the coffin.

Now the cycle is nearly complete.

aha! They have a 'hotfix 36' which patches mcafee to sort this problem. It's a conflict with c_dilla (nasty program that is!).

Problem now is that their hotfixes are not downloadable - you have to get in touch to open a support case and prove you need the fix before they'll even think about offering it to you!

Something similar happens with Norton AV 2004 and Ulead Media Studio Pro 7-Video Editor.
I have to disable the NAVs Auto Protect; otherwise MSP won’t start or in best case runs sloooow.

At least with Nortons you should get an email response.
