  • MPG files makes computer hang!

Can someone explain why my computer 'hangs' when either double-clicking on a .mpg file or opening the same in Windows Media Player. Never happens with my .avi files.

After restarting the computer it sometimes happens again - other times not. After a couple of restarts, double-clicking on the file & it loads as if nothing had happened. The file then plays OK in the Media Player window.

Whichever way you look at it though, it becomes a real time-waster!

The .mpg files (PAL VCD) are converted from .avi files (MJPEG) using MSPro6, which uses the built-in Ligos software.

Would appreciate answers to this problem if poss. Thanks.

Have you tried to install an other (newer) version of media player?

Solved! Thanks very much Marijn, downloaded version 7 of Win Media Player - computer no longer 'hangs' when prompted to run MPEG-1 files.

How different Media Player looks now - I am not sure that I like the 'jazzy', arcade-game design but all functions well enough.
