  • Canon Powershot A70 what do think?

    Hi guys,
I'm buying a new Digital Camera, don't want to spend more that $450.00 CND, and I'm wondering what you think.

I've done some research, and it looks good, the only problem (if it is considered a problem) is that the file format is Jpeg.

    Thanks in advance,
    Elie

It seems like a very nice camera. I own a G3 and I love it. This camera seems to have all of the comparable features. I found this cool canon link for all there digital cameras, enjoy!

Optical zoom stinks. Turn it off. It pixelates the image too much.

I have an old PowerShot G1, and love it. Canon makes great digital cameras. The US site for Canon Powershots is:

No, it is digital zoom that stinks. Optical zoom is what you want to look for...

Yes, I even have digital zoom feature on my Canon XL-1 and it too stinks.

                  Definetly a feature that I won't use.

                  Cheers,

We just bought an A70 about a month ago.
$200US with a free 64meg card from target.
So far, so good. In fact quite a nice camera.
You can do more manual stuff with it than most other camers in it's price range.
It takes realy good pick, even considering the jpg format.
I think you will like it a lot.

I somtimes use the digital on my Canon G5 to check a shot before pulling back to optical. Handy. I have also made a few shots on digital zoom that were useful. If you blow up an optical to the same size as a digital zoom, you will find the digital zoom less blocky and more detail. I think the camera processor improves it a bit, some smoothing, sharpening and contrast. I took a digital zoom of a couple of car thieves, no time to clap on the tele converter, and gave the print to the police from which they were able to identify them.
How can you possibly take anything seriously?
                      Who cares?

I have the A300 and it is really good until you get into low light. Really slow, but the pic is really good.
