  • Kazaa Firewall Settings?

What ports do I have to open up for optimal Kazaa use?

Seems that it wants a whole $hitload of ports open to be happy. The bare minimum looks like port 1214.

Jesus H. Christ, there is NO way I'm opening up 3000 ports for Kazaa!

You don't want to run Kazaa.
You don't want to open up ports for it.

What you want is DC++ and nice privete hub.

I'm shocked, really. Gurm (the basher of crappy software) running Kazaa, what has become of this world.

Never had much luck with DC

          Rather use NNTP or kazza

I like being able to find all the MP3's I want.

You wanna write up a nice walkthrough for setting up DC++ so that I can find really obscure stuff on it just like on Kazaa, I'll be willing to switch.

Why mp3 sound like they're coming through the dustbin anyway.

You need to get on private hub that's usually hidden and passworded and dedicated to your area of interest and usually has forum for chat and requests.

I took one look at the UI and almost threw up

Much Worse than dc++: all the files you want but you can't get em

Edonkey/emule is getting better for music - complete albums only though, single-track MP3s are still very hard to get. It's also ideally suited to lossless compressed albums (in APE format for instance).

So going off on a slight tangent,

                        What apps do you use?

Personally, I just user Shareaza at the moment. Despite a few bugs, it seems to work ok.

Edonkey is obtuse and bizarre. I can't tell at any given time who has a file, what its status is, whether it's started downloading, or what.

I have a progress meter, and that's it. It's the most singularly unhelpful program under the sun.

It's about time that the high-and-mighty designers of these technically complex and elegant progams learned something from the designers of Napster and Kazaa - people like a good interface.

Actually, I've been contemplating writing a 4th-gen P2P protocol/program. Bit Torrent has inspired me, but has SO many intrinsic shortcomings.

                              Anyone wanna help?
